Fortune Telling
Charles Godfrey Leland
Introduction by Gemma Gary
We are delighted to announce the next title in our series of classic texts by Charles Godfrey Leland, following on from Aradia – Or The Gospel of the Witches with our edition of Gypsy Sorcery & Fortune Telling with introduction by Gemma Gary.
First published in 1891, Gypsy Sorcery & Fortune Telling presents a unique and fascinating collection of gypsy witchcraft, folklore, charms, spells, cures, and divination and is profusely illustrated with the author’s own evocative drawings. One of the witchcraft revival’s most influential figures, American folklorist Charles Godfrey Leland, who would become the founding president of the Gypsy Lore Society, sought out the gypsies of England; befriending them, learning their language and immersing himself in their beliefs, stories and practices.
